an all-female collective to promote and support women in music

“Gorgeous.. fantastic.. quite sensational."

Justine Greene (BBC Radio 2)

“The collaboration, known as HEARD, is one to make a note of because they are going to be huge.”
FATEA Magazine

HEARD was co-founded by multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters Daisy Chute and Cerian after they met in the studio recording vocals for Radiohead’s latest album A Moon Shaped Pool. The collective was born out of a desire for more female representation in the music industry and to create a community who would tour together, support one another and inspire a new generation of female music-makers.

“So often we were finding ourselves in the studio or on a lineup as the only female voice. We read in online magazine Pitchfork that only 14% of acts in American festivals in 2017 were female, and according to PRS only 16% of all songwriters/composers registered were female. Rather than viewing this as a competition between each other for that small space, we wanted to redress the balance and ‘open’ the window of opportunity, creating a collective of women not working against, but with and for each other.”

“Absolutely superb. Captivating.”

Paul Sexton, Music Journalist (BBC, Billboard, Telegraph, Sunday Times)

HEARD Collective regularly curate all-female lineups in the U.K. and appear on festival stages, radio and TV to promote and support women in music. Since their first performance at the Sound Lounge for International Women’s Day 2018, HEARD Collective have quickly grown a large and loyal following as they’ve so far performed at Glastonbury Festival, toured the UK and America, recorded a single at Abbey Road Studios, had multiple TV and radio appearances (BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire, Brighton TV), numerous festival performances and have worked with over 40 different female artists. As female promoters, they curate an all-female line-up gig series called “HEARD Collective presents…” in London, featuring talented female singer-songwriters and musicians, with residencies at renowned venues Green Note, Camden and h Club London. Their gigs give a platform to female creators and encourages a community of women to collaborate. Check the LIVE page for details of upcoming gigs.

HEARD Collective released their debut single this year on International Women’s Day: a cover of Tracy Chapman’s classic song Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios and featuring 11 talented female musicians, the single and launch concert raised money for UK gender equality charity Fawcett Society. Although released more than 30 years ago, Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution feels just as relevant now as it did in 1988. The politically-charged anthem acts as a reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we’ve yet to go in matters of equality. Daisy and Cerian wanted this musical call-to-arms to represent a revolution conveyed by singular voices coming together in harmony, working towards a common goal for positive change.

“HEARD collective have delivered events for my venue The Sound Lounge since they were founded. They have brought strong, extremely credible female artists into our space for events that do so much more than showcase. HEARD have created a culture of collaboration which creates a unique offering for an audience at any event; but also goes further because those collaboration relationships extend beyond the events they curate.”

Hannah White, artist and co-founder of The Sound Lounge
